  • Au/06: Richa Patel is working on a project to use a combination of  biological selection and in vitro mutagenesis (often collectively called directed enzyme evolution) to obtain altered forms of the enzyme RubisCO. RubisCO is the enzyme responsible for removing and sequestering CO2 from the atmosphere and, aside from its global significance, is also a protein that is important for agricultural productivity and for potentially converting CO2 to value-added products in the biotechnology industry.
